 Developmental Math Instructor Expectation Guide

The Developmental Math Instructor Expectation Guide is required reading for all instructors of developmental math at Bunker Hill. Its purpose is to  individualize student learning and standardize faculty practice, thereby creating a positive student experience with math learning.

It focuses on six (6) key area:

  1. Creating a consistent student learning experience
  2. Forming a learner-centered classroom environment
  3. Building a community of learners and developing students’ habits of mind
  4. Providing individualized student help
  5. Shifting the assessment approach
  6. Mandating an additional weekly activity hour for students

These 6 key areas form the basis of the twenty-four (24) expectation guidelines that have been identified as crucial for the successful implementation of the developmental math sequence. They are in alignment with the recommendations of NCAT (http://www.thencat.org/).

We recommend that all instructors teaching developmental math at the College adhere to the guidelines outlined in this document.
