COMMON ACCELERATION POLICY
Acceleration is an option for highly motivated students to complete both MAT093 and MAT097 in one semester.
1. Who is eligible to accelerate? All students are eligible to make the request. The course instructor and CSDL designee make the decision to approve based on the student’s ability to keep up with the accelerated pace set by CSDL. Acceleration is suitable for students who are able to work independently for a portion of the course and can dedicate the additional time.
2. When should the student make the decision to accelerate? Interested students who would like to commit to the accelerated pace must make a formal request to the course instructor by the end of Week 2.
3. How does the student commit to accelerate? If the course instructor approves a student, then the student will sign a copy of the pacing guide.
4. Is a passing grade guaranteed for both courses if a student commits to accelerate? No. Commitment to accelerate does not guarantee completion of the two courses in one semester. Students are still bound by the grading policy of both courses. It is possible to pass one course and not the other. The grade for the course the student is registered in will remain on the student’s permanent transcript. Frequently attending tutoring or review sessions in the Math Space or TASC (Tutoring & Academic Support Center) will greatly increase chances of success.
5. When can a student begin the MyMathLab Homework for the 2nd course? After completing the MyMathLab Homework for the 1st course and passing both the midterm and final exams of the first course, students should see a CSDL designee in order to register for MAT097-LCA. This must be done before Week 9.

GRADING POLICY FOR A STUDENT ACCELERATING FROM MAT093 TO MAT097
Student will participate in all components of the 093 course and receive a grade for the 093 course as outlined in the 093 syllabus. Upon earning a passing grade in 093, student will complete the 097 course in alignment with the 097 syllabus with the exception of the Project. There will be no project component for 097. Instead, student will be required to attend a weekly activity hour (e.g. in the Math Space) to work on the MyMathLab homework and applied problem solving. The instructor will monitor student’s activity hour attendance each week via TutorTrac; it will count toward 15% of the final grade.
